Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) did not hesitate to agree with radio show host Ebro Darden that Israel’s involvement in the conflict with Palestinian is “very criminal” – showing her true colors on our ally in the Middle East.
“I wanted you because often on this program, we have the freedom to address the fact that something that, you know people, it’s an oxymoron, how do you have white supremacist Jews?” Watch:
“How do you have people like [senior White House advisor] Stephen Miller? How do you have these individuals who are legit aligning with racism and white supremacy, but they’re Jewish?” Ebro continued. “It’s something that most people can’t wrap their brains around, but it’s a real thing. And what’s going on with Israel and Palestine, while it’s very, very deep, it is very, very criminal, it’s very, very unjust.”
“Absolutely,” Ocasio-Cortez responded. “I think, too, where we’re at as a country, when it comes to Israel-Palestine is very much a generational issue, and when we start looking at it through that lens, a lot of the stuff starts to make sense.”
The exchange comes only a week after Miller criticized freshman congresswoman for comparing illegal immigrant detention facilities to concentration camps weeks earlier.
“I’m a Jew. As a Jew, as an American Jew, I am profoundly outraged by the comments from Ocasio-Cortez,” Miller said while appearing on Fox News. “It’s a historical smear. It is a sinful comment. It minimizes the death of six million of my Jewish brothers and sisters,” he continued. “It minimizes the suffering and it paints every patriot law enforcement officer as a war criminal.”
AOC suggested Palestinians had no recourse but violence: Watch:
On his hip-hop program “Ebro in the Morning,” interviewer Ebro Darden said there was a collection of “corrupt” governments in Israel, the United States, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, “all working in concert,” and referred to White House policy adviser Stephen Miller as a white supremacist.
Ocasio-Cortez, a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement that has been called anti-Semitic by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.), murmured her assent.
Ocasio-Cortez characterized the Right as unfairly accusing her of being anti-Semitic for being critical of Israel.
“Criticizing the occupation doesn’t make you anti-Israel, frankly. It doesn’t mean that you are against the existence of a nation,” she said. “It means that you believe in human rights, and it’s about making sure that Palestinian human rights are equal to Israeli human rights, and there are a lot of troubling things happening there.”
As she did when she opposed an anti-BDS resolution last week, she suggested Palestinians had no choice but to react violently when they were “marginalized.”
Ocasio-Cortez also expressed agreement with the radio host after he contended that a variety of “corrupt governments” including the United States and Russia, are working alongside Israel to support Israel’s occupation of Palestine. However, he noted that the people of Israel largely don’t support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with his efforts and want him to step down.
The self-proclaimed “radical” has been an outspoken critic of the Jewish nation-state since taking office. Ocasio-Cortez faced backlash after a PBS interview aired in July 2018 where she was not able to defend the positions she promulgates regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“I also think that what people are starting to see at least in the occupation of Palestine is just an increasing crisis of humanitarian condition,” she told interviewer Margaret Hoover at the time. “And that to me is just where I tend to come from on this issue.”
After Hoover pressed her on what she meant by “occupation of Palestine,” Ocasio-Cortez conceded that she is “not the expert on geopolitics.” She later claimed her comments on the issue were doctored.
In addition to comparing detention facilities to Nazi concentration camps, she previously compared a migrant caravan trying to enter the United States illegally to Jews fleeing the Holocaust.
Moreover, she compared the effects of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal to the Holocaust, urging America to follow Germany’s example by paying reparations and acknowledge the suffering that occurred during Nazi occupation in order to move forward.
