Sue Bird is a legendary UConn and WNBA basketball player and also happens to be U.S. Soccer Team Star Megan Rapinoe’s girlfriend. She has a message for President Trump, Rapinoe and the country – a warning of sorts, I would think.
Don’t get me wrong – there is nothing I would like better than a President Trump / Megan Rapinoe debate on politics, but the Democrat Party has not reached out just yet as far as I know.
On a side note – I think this is a weird pose above with Bird on the left and Rapinoe on the right, standing on something to make them the same height. Is it me, or does it look like she’s reticent to make too much contact with her? How did ESPN instruct them to pose? It’s not artistic, it’s not sexy, it’s not sporty. It borders on phony if you ask me. Anywhoozer – back to the story:
Sue Bird told Rapinoe she needs to “slow her roll” because left-wing activists are “going to ask you to run for president.”
Now call me cynical, but this is a trial balloon from Rapinoe – trust me – this is a poser who loves attention. She could care less about running for anything seriously, but being asked to run? Oh yeah, right up her alley! This entire post-championship has been about Rapinoe keeping herself front-center and a more selfish teammate I have not read about since Mr. October – Reggie Jackson – which was back in the 70’s.
Rapinoe rose to become one of the symbols of the anti-Trump resistance by refusing to put her hand over her heart and sing the national anthem, taking a knee, talking like a sailor in public and being an all-around Deutsche Bank. For instance, before the World Cup Rapinoe said she didn’t want to go to the “fu*king White House” if the team won the World Cup.
On the MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow show, Rachel asked about a left-wing Public Policy Polling poll that found Rapinoe beating Trump by a point in a hypothetical 2020 presidential matchup, Maddow said: “So, I mean, I don’t think you’re going to announce that you’re running for president.”
Rapinoe responded: “Yes. No, I’m not.”
When Maddow asked what is ahead for Rapinoe, she said: “My girlfriend actually just said, you need to be careful. They’re going to ask you to run for president. You need to slow your roll.”
OPINION HERE: Whenever I hear someone say; “slow your roll” – or whenever I say it – it’s usually to a friend and it’s a polite way of saying STFU. But whatever. I predict they break up very, very soon and that’s too bad if they were doing good before Rapinoe got a big head.
Maddow said she was not asking Rapinoe to run but “just suggesting that others are polling on it.” Rapinoe replied, “I want to be more impactful. I feel like the money where the mouth is the best way to go and trying to, yes, I guess leverage this moment but also understand there is something so much more.”
Maddow concluded the interview by telling Rapinoe: “I think the country is ready for you.”

The U.S. Women’s team turned their World Cup appearance into a politics with constant broadsides against the president, and making numerous political proclamations such as protesting about “equal pay.” Team co-captain Megan Rapinoe also refused to place her hand over her heart and sing the American national anthem.
