CNN’s Brian Stelter allowed the network to fall even further left by letting go unchallenged a lunatic claim by psychiatrist Allen Frances about President Donald Trump this week and offered zero pushback to any of Frances’ remarks. It is making for some intense backlash across the board against CNN and pushing it clearly into the propaganda category.
Frances’ nutty and hateful words came during a segment in which Stelter, who ironically hosts a show called “Reliable Sources,” brought on a second psychiatrist to bash the president. Frances said President Donald Trump “may be responsible for many more million deaths” than Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong.
Frances said, “I’ve known thousands of patients, almost all of them have been well-behaved well-mannered good people. Trump is none of these. Lumping the mentally ill with is a terrible insult and they have enough problems and stigma it is. Calling Trump crazy hides the fact that we’re crazy for having elected him and even crazier for allowing his crazy policies to persist.”

And Stelter said nothing. He just let him blab on and on. Frances joined the discussion to rebut Yale psychiatrist Dr. Bandy Lee, who co-authored a book about potential mental health issuesin the president, and began by claiming that calling Trump “crazy” presented several issues.
“Well, I think that medicalizing politics has three very dire consequences,” he began. “The first is that it stigmatizes the mentally ill. I’ve known thousands of patients, almost all of them are well-behaved well-mannered good people. Trump is none of these. Lumping the mentally ill with Trump is a terrible insult to the mentally ill and they have enough problems and stigma as it is.”
Frances went on to claim that calling the president crazy was a bit of a copout because it “hides the fact that we’re crazy for having elected him and even crazier for allowing his crazy policies to persist.”
“Trump is as destructive a person in this century as Hitler, Stalin and Mao were in the last century. He may be responsible for many more million deaths than they were,” Frances continued. “He needs to be contained but he needs to be contained by attacking his policies, not his person.”
FINALLY they help deem Trump a larger mass murderer than Hitler, Mao AND Stalin!!’ They must have been in that meeting at the NY Times..
Stelter’s reaction — or more aptly, his non-reaction — triggered a wave of backlash on social media. He was criticized for not pushing back or questioning Frances’ outlandish claim, a routine responsibility for show hosts.
Then argued the man whose thesis was that it is irresponsible to discuss the President's mental state was wrong for not wanting to discuss Trump's mental health. Stelter gave him zero push back on the Hitler comparison, but argued we should discuss the President's mental state.

Now get this: Stelter tweeted regret for not challenging the comments by claiming he did hear Frances.
I agree that I should have interrupted after that line. I wish I had heard him say it, but I was distracted by tech difficulties (that's why the show open didn't look the way it normally does, I had two computers at the table, etc). Not hearing the comment is my fault.

Donald Trump Jr. tweeted: “The only thing ‘Reliable’ about Stelter is that he is reliably a leftwing hack.”

Former CIA officer Bryan Dean Wright tweeted: “In the past two years, Trump has held back on greater involvement in Syria, canceled airstrikes in Iran, and worked feverishly to secure peace w/ North Korea. These are not the actions of a man in competition with Hitler, Stalin, or Mao. It’s utter hysteria to suggest he is.”
What’s worse, he was arguing against psychiatrists diagnosing Trump as insane, but later in the interview, he said it would be ok to LIE about that just to get Trump out! And Stelter said nothing then either! Incredible.
But not everyone believed Stelter because, as the Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra noted, CNN promoted the segment that included the comments on social media.
